”I’m the Alarm!”

The past two weeks have been, as we in the biz call it, “Controlled Chaos”. These people I work with can be absolutely ridiculous – then again, they ARE five and six years old – so, take that as you will. All jokes aside, I do love these crazy little guys. It’s also so good to have my two co-teachers with me, because we’re in this together. I’m not sure they’ll read this, but Lyndsey and Carson are absolutely phenomenal and I’m so blessed to teach with them. Our class is the biggest and youngest, but we work together to manage the crowd.

“I’m the alarm”

Just one example (pictured above) is from recess one day. Every day at around 10am, we go to the playground to play for about 45 minutes. Last Tuesday, I announced, “Five more minutes!” To give my class a heads up. A couple minutes later, I hear this loud, yelling/screaming/sirening sound. I turn around to see this boy in a tree yelling at the top of his lungs. Normally, I would say “Not my circus, not my monkeys,” but this was in fact my monkey. I asked what he was doing, and he just said, “I’m the alarm” in the most matter-of-fact voice I’ve heard from a 5yo that doesn’t speak much English. We still had three minutes left. He stopped screaming, but happily sat in this tree for the remaining time at the playground. Oh, the life of a pre-schooler.

A couple of fun things happened that didn’t have anything to do with school, but I’d like to share them (and this is my space so I can do what I want). The picture above is a loaf of bread I baked with my roommate! She made a batch over spring break, but still had a lot of ingredients to use before we leave at the end of this month. We spent all afternoon on Sunday making bread, and it was a very good day with very good quality time and very good bread at the end of it.

This campus has a group called “The Musicianary Collective”. They’re all musicians on the mission field. On Friday, they held an Open Mic at the café on campus. It was kind of like a talent show, but specifically for musical talent (dancing, singing, playing instruments) and everyone was invited to watch and/or participate. I pushed myself to share my testimony song (which I haven’t played publicly in a long time) and it went really well. I also had so much fun watching people of many ages and cultures share what they brought. Some were even my students!

I will officially be back home in Texas on the morning of June 29th. I have an overnight flight and a layover in Denver, but it’s all part of the adventure. I’ll be a little bit sad to close out this particular season, but I obviously know that it’s not the end of my journey. The Lord will lead me and walk with me for all the days of my life. I’ve learned over the past year that letting go and just saying yes to Him is not only easier, it’s also more fun! I don’t desire to fight for control, because I know that 100% of the time that He has it the plan is indescribably better than what I had in mind. After these last three weeks, I’ll still be ready and willing to go with whatever comes next.

Thank you for reading; and, as always, thank you for your continued prayer support. It’s always so so good to know that I’m not doing this alone.

Love,

Gigi
